Where Are All The Dogs?

In the run-up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver, BC, people in the Vancouver airport will be subjected to promotional videos of other areas in British Columbia.

Kelowna has this video showing.

Notice anything missing?

I’ll make it easy for you, so you don’t have to watch the whole 3 minutes and 18 seconds: There is not one dog ---- NOT ONE DOG --- in the whole video.

So leave your dogs in Vancouver, or San Francisco, or Cleveland, or Calgary.  Take it from me, they’re not welcome here.

How un-dog-friendly can a place be that actually has a dog park? Wenatchee doesn't have one - not that I'd have ever taken Archie, he has always been ill-mannered in public. Not his fault, to be sure.

Great blog you got here. It would be great to read something more about that matter. Thanks for sharing that information.

I am actually considering moving from the Maritimes out to Kelowna with my two labs and was hoping you could let me know what I am facing with them. From what I have read it seems to be a very hostile city toward dogs. My two are used to off leash parks, swimming at the lake and in the ocean and I am hoping there are areas in Kelowna we can use that provide the same life style. Any feedback would be really appreciated.

Hello, Anonymous -

It's a little better than is used to be, but the situation with access to the Lake is still pretty awful. The only places where there is (legal) off leash access to the lake are in West Kelowna (over the bridge) and at Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek is also a nude beach. Just tell your dogs to look the people in the eye. ;-)
